Evanston, Ill. (October 1, 2007) – Mather LifeWays, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating “ways to age well,” announced today that reservations for The Mather North, the first of two building in its new Evanston-based continuing care retirement community, have surpassed original sales goals. In addition, officials said that so far, more than 75 percent of The Mather’s future residents currently live on the North Shore.
Scheduled to open in 2009 near the shores of Lake Michigan, construction of The Mather North building will begin October 1. The senior living residence will ultimately be comprised of two structures with construction of The Mather South building scheduled for completion in 2011.
“Surpassing our pre-sales goals in such a short period of time demonstrates that older adults are eager for a residence that speaks to their wishes for ‘repriorment,’ versus retirement,” said Mary Leary, president and CEO of Mather LifeWays. “Mather LifeWays describes repriorment as starting a new chapter of your life and dusting off those dreams and desires you once pushed aside.”
The Mather is the latest addition to a family of senior living residences created by Mather LifeWays that strive to offer older adults the opportunity to pursue engaged and active lifestyles. The two 10-story buildings, architecturally inspired by the Beaux Arts style, are designed by architecture firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz. The buildings will be located at 425 and 450 Davis Street and will be connected by a convenient underground corridor.
Last fall, Mather LifeWays opened its Information and Design Centre at 1622 Orrington Avenue in Evanston to provide potential residents with in-depth information about The Mather, its services and amenities. In late July, demolition of Mather Gardens began, a process that is now complete.
Prospective residents of The Mather North have the opportunity to make a personal selection from among 141 apartment homes and more than 30 floor plans. During 2008 reservations will become available for an additional 102 apartment homes in The Mather South building.
“We have a wide range of apartment homes and floor plans still available in The Mather North,” said Gale Morgan, Vice President of Sales. “Potential residents are telling us that our combination of location, apartment choices and amenities is one of the best on the North Shore.”
The residence boasts a 10,000-square-foot state-of-the-art fitness center and day spa, complete with a 20 meter indoor swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna and steam showers; seven dining venues, including rooftop dining with views of downtown Evanston and Chicago’s skyline; 24-hour concierge service; and “plant-your-own” garden plots on nearly two acres of green space. As a continuing care retirement community, The Mather will also offer onsite health care, should residents ever need it.
The Mather Information and Design Centre is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call (847) 492-7400 or visit www.matherlifeways.com.
