Carroll Lutheran Village, a continuing care community in Maryland has received the Promising Practices Award from Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging.
The Promising Practice Award highlights organizations that are moving away from conventional practices by developing and implementing new and innovative approaches in long-term care and senior living communities. Carroll Lutheran Village won the award for its Healthy Aging Open House Series.
The series educates residents and the greater community on topics of wellness. Recent topics have included:
- Falls Prevention
- Diabetes
- Arthritis
- Stressors of Aging: Finances
- Stressors of Aging: Caregiving
Healthy Aging topics are developed after reviewing assessment data. Knowledgeable speakers are chosen and community groups related to the topic are asked to participate. Fitness demonstrations are presented and new classes are offered related to the topic. Pre- and post- assessments and evaluations of class effectiveness are part of the process. These programs have increased the number of Carroll Lutheran Village residents participating in wellness programming by 23%.
Mather LifeWays has spent more than 70 years learning about how to make the adventure of aging better. They are dedicated to providing a continuum of living and care; making neighborhoods better places for older adults to live, work, learn, contribute, and play; and identifying, implementing, and sharing progressive practices for wellness, workforce issues, memory care support, and empowering caregivers.
