Family Dedicates Five Generations Of Military Service
Beginning with the Civil War, five generations of the Barkley family have served in the United States military. To honor World War II veteran William Barkley, who recently died in January 2009, the extended Barkley family will attend a special Flag Day event at Mather Pavilion in Evanston where a new flagpole and plaque will be unveiled. William and June Barkley (of Evanston) were married on Flag Day, and June will be in attendance – her first anniversary without her husband.
